The document server can produce PDF, TIFF, JPEG or PCL files which can be sent to e-mail addresses, printers, FTP file-servers of placed on the web.
The main advantage of the document server's "digital sender" approach compared with using a PC to do the same job is speed and simplicity. Other advantages inlude lower cost and almost no maintenance. There is no additional software - everything needed is built into the unit.
Setup can be done through the LCD screen and its menus or via a keyboard. More user-friendly setup is by using the built-in browser interface. Any compatible browser (Internet Explorer 4 and above) can be used to set standard document destinations and other features. The device administrator can set the destinations available, there can be a default destination or a single destination for fixed applications. User authentication to Windows NT/2000, Server 2003, Active Directory or LDAP can be provided if the optional keyboard is installed.
GT-2500 Flatbed Scanner
The GT-2500 is an A4 flatbed device that can handle single sheets and bound documents. The 50 sheet ADF can handle double sided material at up to 27 pages per minute. Scanning is at up to 1200 dpi to capture details and at 48-bit colour to capture images accurately. It comes with a USB 2.0 interface.
One of the big advantages of the Axis approach is that if this scanner doesn't meet the need of some particular task it can be unplugged and replaced with another model as easily as attaching any other USB peripheral. There are other advantages in flexibility and testing - the scanner is a standard PC device and can be used independently. The Axis document server can be combined with another scanner for testing and is easily carried and replaced. The two devices combine to make a highly effective and flexible digital sender.
